Overview

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 coupe rides high like an SUV but looks more dramatic thanks to its diving rear roofline. The latter impinges on cargo space and back-seat headroom, but that’s the price of admission nowadays to the beauty pageant among compact luxury utes. The sloped-back Benz competes directly with the Audi Q5 Sportback, the BMW X4, and the Infiniti QX55. Inside, the GLC’s passengers enjoy an upscale environment with fancy standard features aplenty. Under the Benz’s hood is a 255-hp turbo-four powertrain that teams with standard all-wheel drive. While the 2022 GLC300 has a supple ride and nimble handling, it’s not as exciting as its souped-up siblings, the Mercedes-AMG GLC43 and GLC63.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

The GLC interior delivers attractive materials, wonderful build quality, and comfortable passenger accommodations. Mercedes also stocks the GLC with luxurious standard equipment that includes dual-zone climate control and power-adjustable front seats with heated cushions. The SUV also can be upgraded with leather surfaces, head-up display, heated rear seats, ventilated front seats, and more. Unfortunately, the GLC is less generous with its limited interior cubby storage and mediocre cargo capacity, which measures 19 cubic feet behind the rear seats and 57 cubes with the back seats folded. Each of those volumes are smaller than the X3, which offers 29 and 63 cubes, respectively. However, we fit eight carry-on suitcases behind the back seat of both.

Вариацией цвета кузова стал Серый графит, а размеры дисков доступны в диапазоне от 17 до 20 дюймов. В целом, теперь внедорожник выглядит более солидно и свежо.

2023 Mercedes-AMG GLC hybrid

Like the 2021 range, the next-gen Mercedes GLC line-up will include performance-oriented AMG variants. Motor1’s spy photographers have spotted an all-new Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 undergoing testing. In addition to the usual dose of AMG features like an exclusive (Panamerica) grille, lowered ride height, beefier brakes, sportier wheels, and more aerodynamic bumpers, the GLC 63 AMG will likely boast an electric power boost function in the next generation.

The next-gen GLC 63 AMG should get the same M139 2.0-liter engine-based plug-in hybrid system as the next-gen C 63 AMG. There would be three different electrical assistances for the engine: an electrified turbocharger, an ISG, and a traction motor. The engine should produce 443 hp and the traction motor 201 hp, and the net power should be more than 600 hp.

The all-new GLC 63 AMG could arrive in the first markets a year after the GLC, perhaps in the summer of 2023.

Второй и третий ряд легко складываются, образуя дополнительное место и превращая багажник объемом 550 л в пространство 2400 л.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

A 255-hp turbocharged four-cylinder mated to a nine-speed automatic transmission is the GLC300’s standard powertrain. Rear-wheel drive is the default setup but all-wheel drive—called 4Matic—is optional. The GLC300 4Matic we drove in Germany had mostly responsive acceleration and well-behaved transmission behavior. The GLC lacks the driving verve of the Porsche Macan and other sportier rivals—see the AMG-tuned versions for maximum engagement—but the GLC300 at least delivers a smooth and quiet ride. The all-wheel-drive version we tested also posted a brisk trip to 60 mph in just 5.4 seconds. Its all-season tires provided a respectable 0.87 g of cornering grip, and contributed to the compact ute’s 172-foot stop from 70 mph. These results were close to the X3 xDrive30i that we compared it against, but in the end we gave the advantage to the better Bimmer.

2022 Mercedes GLC release date

Daimler completed expanding the current GLC line-up in the U.S. market with the Mercedes-AMG GLC 63 S’ launch in April 2021 and expects deliveries from the fourth quarter (October-December 2021). It may schedule deliveries of the next-gen Mercedes GLC in the U.S. in the Sept-Nov period of 2022. A report from AutoZeitung.de filed in April 2021 said that sales in Europe would also begin in the fall of next year. Also, consider that the auto industry is reeling from a shortage of semiconductors that is hampering production schedules and new product launches.

Given that the next-gen GLC plug-in hybrid variants are under development alongside the mild-hybrid variants, Daimler should launch them in the market shortly after.

From the next generation, the Mercedes GLC will roll out of the Mercedes-Benz Sindelfingen plant in addition to the Mercedes-Benz Bremen plant. This production site is currently responsible for the Mercedes E-Class, Mercedes S-Class, and Mercedes EQS. The Bremen plant will probably get a head-start, while the Sindelfingen plant, as per a report from JESMB, should start production at the end of 2022. The Beijing plant would continue building the GLC for Chinese sales.

Mercedes GLC sales in the U.S. have started recovering this year following the slump in 2020 because of the COVID-19 pandemic. While in H1 2020 the sales dropped 33.5% year-over-year to 22,560 units (H1 2019: 33,906 units), in H1 2021, they increased 33.6% year-over-year to 30,149 units. Globally, in Q2 2021, the GLC was the brand’s best-selling car.

In Q3 2021, the GLC recorded a sale of 7,982 units in the U.S., 30.2% lower than in Q3 2020 (11,428 units). Globally, the Mercedes GLC continued being the best-selling Mercedes-Benz model.

Pricing and Which One to Buy

The GLC300 coupe has enough standard amenities to keep the average shopper in this segment smiling. However, to optimize the coupe’s look-at-me shape, we’d opt for the AMG Line with Night package. It adds black exterior trim, a chrome diamond-block grille, and AMG-style 20-inch rims. It also dresses up the inside with a sportier-looking steering wheel and aluminum pedals. We’d also add the illuminated star logo for the grille that looks striking at night. We’d increase the cabin’s richness with one of the leather upholstery options, ventilated front seats, heated steering wheel, the 12.3-inch digital gauge cluster, and the heat and noise-insulated side glass that really helps keep interior noise down.

Overview

The 2022 Mercedes-Benz GLC300 is better suited for drivers who prefer to luxuriate rather than raise their heart rates. Those seeking a more adrenalized experience will appreciate the separately reviewed AMG GLC-classes, which offer between 385 and 503 horsepower. The GLC coupe also exists for extroverted types. Despite making a humble 255 horses, the regular GLC300 is remarkably quick. Less remarkable are its uninspired handling and mediocre highway fuel economy. The BMW X3 is much better in both regards, and other compact luxury crossovers such as the Volvo XC60 are more capacious. In typical Mercedes-Benz fashion, the GLC’s interior blends magnificent materials and cutting-edge tech. While it’s more practical than the brand’s traditional C-class sedan, the 2022 GLC 300 is less engaging to drive.

Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The GLC300 coupe gets its muscle from a turbocharged 2.0-liter four-cylinder engine that kicks out 255 horsepower and 273 pound-feet of torque. A nine-speed automatic transmission sends power to all four wheels via a standard 4Matic all-wheel-drive system. We drove a GLC300 coupe several years ago and have more recent experience with the SUV body style, but we’ve never tested the sloped-back one at the track. Still, we can extrapolate our impressions and say that the coupe’s suspension settings are stiff enough to add a frisson of driver excitement, yet smooth enough to ensure that your daily commute is free of bumps and jolts. It also comes with five available drive modes, allowing the driver to tailor the coupe’s handling to suit their mood or driving conditions.

Interior, Comfort, and Cargo

Cabin design within the GLC coupe brims with swank Euro flair. The center stack curves gracefully into the console, and the floating touchscreen that sits aloft gives the cabin a thoroughly modern appearance. Circular air vents are a running motif within the interior, and they have a look that’s both retro and contemporary. The GLC coupe’s front seats are spacious, but headroom in the second row is compromised by the vehicle’s sloping roofline. As far as cargo capacity goes, this SUV provides 17 cubic feet with the rear seats in use and 50 cubes with those seats folded. That’s a lot less than you’ll get with some small crossovers. For example, the Acura RDX offers 30 cubic feet of cargo space behind its second row and 59 cubes behind its first row of seating.
