Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA)⁠

If your Hyundai detects a vehicle in your blind spot while your turning signal’s on, it will alert you and may automatically apply the left or right front brake before you change lanes.⁠

Standard on SEL, SEL Premium, and Limited trims. 

Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) assists the driver by warning of other cars in the blind spot region. It senses the rear side territory of the vehicle when it is traveling over 20 mph. There are limitations to the function, range, detection and clarity of the system. It will not detect all vehicles or objects in the blind spot. Its operation depends on the size, distance, angle and relative speed difference between your car and other cars. BCA may not operate if sensors are obscured in any way. Do not rely exclusively on BCA. BCA is a supplemental system and the driver must still be attentive and exercise caution when driving. It is important to always signal, look over your shoulder and through your mirrors before changing lanes. It is the driver’s responsibility to be aware of the surroundings and ensure it is clear before changing lanes or directions. See Owner’s Manual for further details and limitations.

Extensive Safety Features

The Santa Cruz will come with much the same safety features and driver assists as the Tucson, including the Hyundai SmartSense features forward collision warning / automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cyclist detection, lane departure warning and lane keep assist, and driver attention warning. Two features offered standard on some high-volume competitors are optional here: adaptive cruise control and blind spot warning with collision avoidance assist (via steering and braking).

Other available safety features are rear cross-traffic warning with auto-braking, a surround-view camera system and Highway Driving Assist. HDA combines adaptive cruise control, lane centering assist and driver-awareness tracking to provide Level 2 (of five levels) self-driving.

Hyundai BlueLink telematics will be integrated in all Santa Cruz vehicles. The first three years of service are provided. After that, a core safety service including automatic crash notification is about $10 a month.

Clever Storage

With the core demographic of the urban adventure-seeker in mind (young, tech-savvy, $80,000 income, shares an apartment to devote more money to getting away on weekends, says Hyundai) a lockable sliding aluminum-slat tonneau cover protects valuables when private parking isn’t available and gives weekend travellers the option to leave gear secure overnight. 

Under the composite bed is a lockable storage bin with a drain. It’s ideal for storing smaller valuables, or can be used to pack 100-plus beverages and ice as well as the dirtiest, grungiest clothing and gear (ideally not at the same time). Also standard are cargo D-rings, LED cargo lights, sidewall storage compartments and integrated rear bumper steps for climbing in and out.  

The Santa Cruz’s pickup bed is 48.4 inches long at the floor, 52.1 inches at the so-called upper level, where it’s also wide enough to carry plywood. It holds objects that won’t fit inside a crossover such as mountain bikes and surfboards, or messy items like topsoil. Longer cargo will hang out over the tailgate and might require strapping down, but it beats stuffing them uncomfortably inside a small crossover. 

As for carrying plywood sheets, there’s an upper level above the wheel housings just for plywood or drywall. The load bed plus the tailgate, secured at an angle, extends out more than 5 feet, though it’s best to employ tie-downs.

Underbed storage includes a cooler for tailgating. Or you can use it for stowing dirty gear, muddy boots, or other things you’d like to keep separate. Bill Howard

However, we think the company’s decision to omit any physical controls is a misstep. Along with wireless device charging, the Santa Cruz offers wireless pairing for both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. Those who want an upgraded stereo can opt for the eight-speaker Bose sound system. With Hyundai’s Blue Link services, which are provided free of charge for three years, users can start the truck, lock and unlock doors, and more remotely via the Internet, myriad apps, and even Amazon Alexa.

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA)⁠

Your vehicle warns you through audio and visual cues if your vehicle drifts out of its driving lane without signaling. If necessary, it will gently apply corrective steering assistance to keep you inside the lane.⁠

Standard on all trims. 

Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) will not work under all circumstances. It functions when it is able to detect painted lane markings. It cannot function if the lane markings cannot be seen clearly, if the lines are faded, or during dusk without headlights on, with snow, rain, sleet, dust, leaves or standing water on road, sudden changes in brightness such as shadows, tunnel exits/entrances, low sunlight angle causing reflections, multiple lane markings or criss-crossed lines, tar crack sealer and cracked or broken road surfaces. It also may not function on very rough roads, when walls, curbs or concrete barriers are close by, or if following another car too closely. Since it «sees» the lane markings using a camera in the upper windshield area, it is imperative this area be clear and free of blockage such as stickers, dirt, snow, tinting material, markings and labels. Avoid putting objects on the dashboard that may reflect light or images onto the system camera area. Lane Keeping Assist is not a substitute for safe driving practices, but is a supplemental assist only. The driver is responsible for always maintaining command and control of the vehicle and must keep hands on the wheel at all times. See Owner’s Manual for further details and limitations.

Highway Driving Assist (HDA)⁠

While driving on the highway, this technology automatically helps keep you centered in your lane and traveling at a safe distance from the car ahead. It also keeps you driving at the right speeds, setting your pace based on GPS and highway data.⁠

Standard on Limited trim. 

Highway Driving Assist (HDA), when used in conjunction with Lane Following Assist and Smart Cruise Control, is for highway use only and can help keep the vehicle centered in its lane while maintaining a safe distance from the vehicle ahead only when the lane markings are clearly visible on the road and should not be used in poor weather, heavy or varying traffic, or on winding or slippery roads. HDA will not work under all circumstances and will not prevent loss of control. Driver remains responsible to slow or stop the vehicle to avoid a collision. Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection (FCA-Ped)⁠

The moment it detects a slowing or stopped vehicle in your path, it warns you of a potential collision. If you don’t stop in time, the system may automatically apply braking to help avoid or reduce the severity of a collision.⁠

Standard on all trims. 

The Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist with Pedestrian Detection (FCA-Ped) is intended to be a supplement to safe driving practices. The system is not designed to detect certain stationary objects such as trees or poles, and may not detect all vehicles or pedestrians under certain conditions. The system is a driver assistance system and is not a substitute for safe driving. The driver is responsible for being attentive and maintaining control of the vehicle, and should not wait for the system’s alerts before braking as there may not be sufficient time to brake safely. Здесь такая же электронная приборка на 10,25-дюймовом дисплее без козырька, а центральная консоль лишена физических кнопок. Мультимедийка также имеет экран на 10,25″, а под ним разместился сенсорный блок управления климатом.

За доплату для пикапа предложены адаптивный круиз-контроль, камеры кругового обзора, люк в крыше, «кожаный» салон, электропривод и вентиляция передних кресел, функция дистанционного запуска двигателя и пр. В базе имеется система автоматического торможения и пластиковая ниша под задним диваном для хранения мелочевки.

Как и Туссан, пикап Santa Cruz имеет несущую конструкцию кузова, поперечное расположение двигателя и пружинную заднюю подвеску, однако колесная база была растянута с 2 755 до 3 005 мм. Общая габаритная длина машины составляет 4 971 мм, ширина — 1 905, высота — 1 694. В базе авто оснащен полноприводной трансмиссией HTRAC с муфтой подключения задней оси.

В качестве силовых агрегатов для Хендай Санта Круз 2021 в новом кузове предложено два бензиновых движка. Базовый 2,5-литровый атмосферник GDI выдет 193 л.с. и сочетается в паре с 8-ступенчатой автоматической коробкой. Engine, Transmission, and Performance

The Santa Cruz comes with two different powertrain choices. The standard setup is a 2.5-liter four-cylinder that makes 191 horsepower and 181 pound-feet of torque. However, based on the languid acceleration it provided the Tuscon crossover we tested, this entry-level engine is best avoided. The upgraded engine is a turbocharged 2.5-liter four with 281 horses and 311 pound-feet. Its added power and punchier responses are much better suited to the Santa Cruz. Both engines mate to eight-speed automatics, but the turbo option partners with the dual-clutch variety. All-wheel drive is also offered with both four-cylinders. The Santa Cruz is shorter and lower than its segment rivals, which helps make it easier to maneuver around town. The top-of-the-line Limited model we drove showcased the truck’s refined ride and agile handling.

Rear Occupant Alert (ROA)⁠

As the engine is turned off, a visual warning in the instrument cluster reminds you to check the rear seats before exiting.⁠

When the vehicle is parked and the engine has been turned off, the Rear Occupant Alert can help to alert the driver if the rear door(s) have been opened at any point after the vehicle was unlocked at the beginning of the journey. Upon turning the engine off, Rear Occupant Alert will provide a visual alert on the instrument cluster. Rear Occupant Alert is not a substitute for driver attentiveness. Two Four-Cylinder Options, Front- or All-Wheel-Drive

The Santa Cruz not surprisingly offers both front-drive and all-wheel-drive (Hyundai HTRAC) power distribution.  Road wheel sizes range from 20 inches for looks and on-road performance down to 18 inches, the 18s providing larger, more flexible tire sidewalls for off-roading. Santa Cruz ground clearance is a reasonable 8.6 inches.

Lower Santa Cruz trim lines get a 2.5-liter gasoline-direct-injected four-cylinder engine that Hyundai says produces 190-plus horsepower and 180-plus pound-feet of torque, coupled to an eight-speed automatic transmission. It will tow a 3,500-pound trailer load.

Upper trim lines get a turbocharged four-cylinder GDI engine with 275-plus horsepower and 310-plus pound-feet of torque, linked to an eight-speed dual-clutch transmission (DCT), with steering-wheel paddle shifters. With all-wheel drive, it will tow a 5,000-pound trailer.

The rear seat holds two, or three, in reasonable but not supreme comfort. This on a vehicle only an inch shorter than the Hyundai Palisade midsize SUV. Hyundai

What’s On the Outside

Top and side-mounted LED bed lighting to provide ideal illumination for night-time loading and unloading, which can be lock-protected with the slideable tonneau cover that’s integrated into the Santa Cruz. The durable tonneau is capable of holding up to 220 pounds on it, thanks to the strong aluminum material used in its construction. Another feature with the pickup bed of this SAV is the lockable under-bed storage compartment that provides waterproof protection of your valuables. Also, located at the back of the bed, are integrated rear bumper steps, which makes it easier to step into and off the bed and is capable of withstanding the pressure of up to 440 pounds. The bed also features a 115-volt plugin, as well as an adjustable rail and six tie-down points. The rails and points help secure smaller and awkward size loads when they’re strapped down securely enough for transport. There is also a height-adjustable tailgate where if the load the driver is carrying needs the extra space.

Inside the 2022 Santa Cruz

The Santa Cruz’s cabin unsurprisingly resembles that of the Tucson, including (on higher trims) the 10.25-inch digital instrument panel and matching 10.25-inch center stack display. Lower Santa Cruz trims get an 8.5-inch infotainment screen and analog gauges with a 4.2-inch information display in the center.  

In both vehicles with the larger center display Hyundai eschews volume and tuning knobs for touchscreen controls, which is sometimes less than satisfying for pumping up the jam. Some of the fonts on the digital instrument panel are also a bit too small. The interface isn’t hard to use but for those who aren’t fans, Apple CarPlay and Android Auto are standard. 

At least with the Santa Cruz, the driver can rest a wrist on the T-handle shifter for balance while working the screen. The Tucson has a pushbutton shifter flush with the console and no wrist support. 

The Santa Cruz has only a little less leg room than its crossover sister, the Tucson, but it does feel a bit more confining. Still, by the standards of the old Subaru Baja, the last similar product on the U.S. market, the rear seat is meaningfully capacious. It’s also marginally larger than Ford‘s Maverick. Hyundai

The front seats are suitable for almost any size of occupant, but as in many small pickups, the back seat is a little compromised for people over about five-foot-nine. The Santa Cruz has 36.5 inches of rear legroom to the Tucson’s 38.2, but the crossover’s open cabin makes it feel bigger If you’re planning weekend adventures for adults, try before you buy. For comparison, the new Ford Maverick, which shares much with the Bronco Sport, has 0.6 inches less rear legroom, but 1.4 additional inches in front. 

The cabin’s most thoughtful feature is the climate control’s air-diffuser option, called multi-air mode, which moves a decent amount of air with less noise and no sense of being blasted by pinpoint jets of air. The least desirable feature after the missing tuning knobs: four hard-edged chrome buttons set into the steering wheel to control infotainment and adaptive cruise control. Barely a quarter-inch long, they’re slippery and start to feel like knife edges on long drives.

Все-таки продакшена у внедорожника пока нет, презентации как такой пока тоже не проводилось, соответственно полной информации о технических начинках и бортовых функциях покупатель понятия не имеет, а учитывая конец года и отсутствие в это время каких-либо знаковых автомобильных мероприятий, ожидать официального знакомства стоит только в начале следующего года.

О поставках на российский рынок пока речи не идет. Даже в самой компании к пикапу относятся, как к некоему эксперименту из разряда зайдет-не зайдёт. Если продажи хорошо себя покажут, то Хендай ничего не помешает адаптировать pickup и под другие рынки. Но пока ждать не стоит.
